Pakistan is one of the very few countries which has been bestowed with all the three types of available salt in the world. Lake salt of Pakistan is excellent in quality and the quantity available is as much as you want . Previouslly it used to be a problem extracting deep from the deserts of Sind but now with the excellent road network the capacities are increasing by the day.
In certain locations transportation is done by special-desert trucks which can carry 10 tons of load at a time and work round the clock. The lakes are located some 300 km from the city of Karachi .At the moment a small quantity of 3000 tons is extracted from these 20 to 30 lakes on daily basis making the yearly average production to around 900000 tons.
There are three different sites from where lake salt is being extracted at the moment. First In the district of MirPurkhas there is a small town by the name of KHIPRO and thus salt extracted from here is known as KHIPRO salt. The second site is in the district of Badin and the salt extracted from this region is known as BADIN salt. The third site is in the region of Mithi district Tharparker The quality of all these region is very good rather excellent but keeps on fluctuating a little with the change of weather. Overall salt of a purity of 98% + is usually attainable throughout the year.
